Borges make competitive debut for Monchengladbach – C. Martins scores
On Saturday afternoon, Mathias Olesen had to watch from the bench as 1. FC Köln surprisingly failed in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The Bundesliga team was 2-0 down against Jahn Regensburg (2nd Bundesliga) after just 26 minutes. However, the Cologne team fought back with goals from Uth (28th) and Ljubicic (63rd). They created chances again and again – but in the end they could not reward their efforts. After a 3:4 penalty shoot-out, the game is over in the first round.
As is well known, the cup writes its own laws. Hansa Rostock knows that all too well. For the tenth time in the past twelve years, the Rostock team failed in the first round. There was a 1-0 defeat against VfB Lübeck from the Regionalliga Nord. Sébastien Thill was injured.
Things went a lot better for Mönchengladbach. The Bundesliga club celebrated a peat festival against fifth division club SV Oberachern. The Foals were already 6-0 up at half-time. When national player Yvandro Borges came on in the 82nd for his first official game at Gladbach, the final result of 9:1 was already certain. “I’m happy about my competitive debut. #trusttheprocess,” Borges wrote on social media. 1. FSV Mainz 05 is also through to the next round after beating Erzgebirge Aue 3-0. Leandro Barreiro was initially on the bench and was only brought on in the 76th.
In the starting XI: Anthony Moris and Union Saint-Gilloise celebrated their first win of the season on matchday two in the Jupiler Pro League. The Luxembourg international goalkeeper’s side beat Charleroi 1-0 on Friday. Moris and Co. will continue on Tuesday. Then the opponent in the Champions League qualifier is Glasgow Rangers.
Spartak Moscow celebrated their second win in their third game of the season on Sunday. National player Christopher Martins made the stadium cheer in the second minute with a 1-0 win against FC Orenburg. Alexander Sobolev made it 2-0 ten minutes later. Quincy Promes, who had prepared the first two goals, then added again in the 38th and 90th +4, so that in the end it was a 4:1 win. Martins was substituted off in the 75th. Moscow ranks first in the Russian Premier League along with city rivals CSKA and St. Petersburg. Meanwhile, Marvin Martins and Austria Wien were held to a 1-1 draw by LASK. The Luxembourger was in the starting XI and played through.
Substitute: The new season has started on a disappointment for Norwich City. On the first day of the Championship there was a 1-0 defeat by Cardiff City. Danel Sinani came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute – by then the final result was already certain.
Not playing: Maxime Chanot was injured at New York City FC. Without the international, there was a 0-0 draw against Montréal in the MLS on Sunday. Laurent Jans and Mica Pinto did not play in Sparta Rotterdam’s 3-1 friendly win over Emmen. Enes Mahmutovic was not a substitute in CSKA Sofia’s 5-1 win over Beroe Stara Zagora.
